Faculty - Hedayat Azad
Hedayat Azad, Ph.D., M-IEEE - Director of LCC’s Wireless Institute and one of the Principal Consultants in Advanced Technology, Research and Innovation group at LCC.  He has over 20 years of combined academic and practical telecommunications experience in various capacities in Asia, Europe and USA. During this period, Hedayat has been involved in research and development as well as design and optimization of wireless networks. His work covers most radio and core network aspects of voice/data network deployment, in both terrestrial and satellite communications, and for major wireless and mobile technologies including UMTS (WCDMA/HSPA), GSM (GPRS, EDGE), CDMA2000 (IS-95/1xRTT, 1xEV-DO), OFDM/WiFi/WiMAX, and more.

Hedayat joined WFI in late 1997, and in early 1999 he became the Director of Advanced Technologies, where he headed the group in managing consulting and training development projects for clients in Europe and USA. During the same timeframe, he helped the development of several advanced third generation courses.

Prior to joining WFI, Hedayat was a research fellow at the Centre for Telecommunications Research (CTR) in King’s College, University of London in UK, where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications. His doctoral dissertation was in the area of multi-service, multi-rate and multi-environment hybrid Spread Spectrum CDMA for Mobile Communications. He also worked on numerous consulting projects for many telecommunications companies and research institutions such as Panasonic, Fujitsu, Motorola, Nokia, Assahi and UK’s EPSRC.

After LCC’s acquisition of WFI in July 2007, Hedayat has been appointed to manage the LCC’s Wireless Institute where he is currently involved in directing, as well as executing course development and presentations to LCC clients worldwide. The Institute researches the engineering design and optimization processes for the emerging wireless technologies and develops job-centered, just in time, engineering, professional, and management development curricula for LCC's clients and employees.

Hedayat's B.S. and M.S., in EE and Telecommunications, are from Tehran University, and University of London, UK, respectively. As a member of IEE and IEEE (MIEEE), he has published many technical papers on wireless and mobile communications, in telecom journals and magazines, and presented at several conferences and technology forums. He has also been active in standard organizations and groups such as 3GPP, 3GPP2, TIA/TR45 and CDG, participating in several working groups for the development of third generation standards in both Europe and United States.
